In 1995, College Graduates, especially those with a degree in Communications/Journalism left with complete knowledge of Universal Rules and Codes of Ethical Behaviors and Procedures Journalists, their bosses and staff also knew and were held responsible to uphold and execute without deviation if they were to advance and hold on to their careers as an important part of society's well being. The individual journalist, support staff, and superiors were held to impeccable research standards, reliability, fact checking, verification, and UNBIASED dissemination of information in every area of News Coverage- Be it Sports, Entertainment, Crime, or POLITICS.
Communication Law was necessary for the completion of the degree program, and it was one of several classes of which the text book studied was kept by graduates who went on to pursue a career in Journalism; As a Bible and Guide to Practices one didn't stray from if they wanted to keep their career, succeed, and avoid a humiliating loss of credibility, career and reputation. There were LAWS necessary to follow or possibly follow a judge and jury to a trial to hopefully, depending on the violation, vindicate an individual from the intentional straying or negligent reporting practice that led to flawed, invalid, untrue, or BIASED to the point of leading the audience to come to a conclusion other than their own.
Legal Consequences, Financial Loss, Loss of Credibility and tabloid entertainment status of once reputable journalists and their institution of employment, be it broadcast or print, MUST be held to these standards of ethics and LAW that have never been repealed, yet are violated DAILY. It's up to the public to force advertisers, sponsors, and Media Conglomerates to uphold these standards or face legal and financial losses they no doubt will justly be subject to given their huge impact on the outcome of elections and behaviors that in effect result in harm to any individual, group or society, especially those of real, legal Americans..
